Russian Literature

Welcome to the wonderful world of Russian literature!

“I am a wanderer passionately in love with life.”

—   Aleksandr Kuprin

“There are books so alive that you’re always afraid that while you weren’t reading, the book has gone and changed, has shifted like a river; while you went on living, it went on living too, and like a river moved on and moved away. No one has stepped twice into the same river. But did anyone ever step twice into the same book?”

—   Marina Tsvetaeva

I’m back!

So very sorry for the long (very long, it’s been 2 years!) absence. I’ve been very busy with various things and barely had any time for the interwebs. But now I’m back and I will be updating this blog more often (much more often).

Hope everyone is well!

Welcome back to the world of Russian literature!

“You will hear thunder and remember me,
And think: she wanted storms. The rim
Of the sky will be the colour of hard crimson,
And your heart, as it was then, will be on fire.”

—   Anna Akhmatova

“What a wonderful day! Can’t choose whether to drink tea or to hang myself.”

—   Anton Chekhov

“When a woman isn’t beautiful, people always say, ‘You have lovely eyes, you have lovely hair.’”

—   Anton Chekhov

“In days of doubt, in days of dreary musings on my country’s fate, you alone are my comfort and support, oh great, powerful, righteous, and free Russian language!”

—   Ivan Turgenev

“When you’re thirsty and it seems that you could drink the entire ocean that’s faith; when you start to drink and finish only a glass or two that’s science.”

—   Anton Chekhov
Mikhail Bulgakov
Alexander Pushkin
